At ENTRUST, internships are designed to give students more than a glimpse into the professional world. They are an opportunity to apply classroom knowledge, contribute to meaningful work and begin building a clearer path toward a future career.
Through technical training, mentorship, field exposure and hands-on project experience, ENTRUST’s 2026 Summer Internship Program helps students develop practical skills while learning from experienced professionals across the company.
“One of the most exciting aspects of the ENTRUST internship program is the opportunity for students to gain meaningful, hands-on experience while being supported every step of the way,” said ENTRUST’s Internship Program Director. “We intentionally provide opportunities for interns to contribute to real projects, build professional networks and explore different facets of our industry.”
This summer, ENTRUST interns are working across a variety of teams, offices and areas of the business. Their experiences include supporting gas programs, learning about pipeline design and integrity, exploring power systems and architectural engineering, and gaining a closer look at how infrastructure projects move from planning to execution.
For many interns, one of the most valuable parts of the program is seeing how the concepts they study in school apply to real client work. They are learning how teams collaborate, how projects develop over time and how technical decisions can affect the communities ENTRUST serves.
Interns are also gaining exposure to the tools and technology used across the industry. Some are building their skills in AutoCAD and Bluebeam, while others are learning about laser scanning, project workflows and technical project management. Field visits to potential and active project sites add another layer of understanding, helping students connect the work behind a desk to the infrastructure being built and maintained in the field.
Whether they are joining ENTRUST for the first time or returning for another summer, interns are encouraged to take on new responsibilities, ask questions and explore the areas of work that interest them most.
Mentorship is a central part of the ENTRUST internship experience. Interns are paired with professionals who provide day-to-day support, technical guidance and career advice throughout the summer.
For Lucy Platt, EIT, becoming an intern mentor was especially meaningful because her own career at ENTRUST began through the internship program.
“I started my career at ENTRUST as part of the internship program and had a great mentor,” Lucy said. “I am excited to have the opportunity to give back to the program and be on the mentoring side this time.”
In her role as a mentor, Lucy helps her intern understand the fundamentals of power systems engineering, learn more about ENTRUST’s clients and explore potential career paths within the industry.
“Overall, my role is to provide support on a day-to-day basis as well as high-level guidance, such as career advice and looking beyond just this summer,” she said.
She also encourages interns to look beyond their immediate assignments and use the summer as a chance to learn about different parts of the company.
“Internships are all about exploring and learning,” Lucy said. “I encourage him to not only look at what our team does, but also shadow other teams throughout our branch to see what sparks his interest.”
For Lucy, one of the most rewarding parts of mentoring has been watching her intern grow more confident and independent.
“It is so rewarding to see my intern gain independence and do hands-on work with the client,” she said. “He has really dug into these projects and has been putting in great work across multiple projects.”
ENTRUST interns come from a range of academic backgrounds, including civil, mechanical, architectural and design engineering. While their interests and goals may differ, many share a curiosity about how infrastructure projects come together and how their work can make a meaningful impact.
Some interns were drawn to engineering through architecture, construction or family members in the field. Others were inspired by the opportunity to combine creativity, problem-solving, math and science. Throughout the summer, they are gaining a better understanding of the many career paths available within utilities and infrastructure consulting.
The program also gives interns the chance to build relationships across the company. From meeting mentors and team members to connecting with other interns in their offices, these experiences help create a welcoming environment where students feel comfortable learning, contributing ideas and taking on new challenges.
“My hope is that every intern concludes the program with valuable experience, lasting connections and a stronger understanding of how they can make an impact in their future profession,” ENTRUST’s Internship Program Director said.
Lucy’s advice to interns is simple: use the experience to explore.
“As much as an internship is a job, it is also about finding out what you like to do and what you don’t like to do,” she said. “Reach out to people throughout the company. We are always happy to chat and show you what we are working on.”
By asking questions, seeking out new experiences and building connections across the organization, interns can leave the program with more than technical knowledge. They gain confidence, a clearer sense of direction and a stronger understanding of how their skills can contribute to meaningful work.
