Cleveland Utilities Selects FiberRise, an ENTRUST Solutions Group Company, to Advance the Electric Grid and Deliver Fiber Broadband in Cleveland, Tennessee
Huntsville, Ala., September 5, 2023 – Cleveland Utilities selected FiberRise, an ENTRUST Solutions Group Company, as their strategic engineering and solution partner to advance fiber forward to the City of Cleveland, Tennessee. This rapid-rollout project entails one of the nation’s most advanced fiber-to-distribution grid modernizations combined with a multi-gigabit all-fiber broadband solution.
As part of this initiative, Cleveland Utilities will implement a state-of-the-art fiber-optic system to support its electric system and grid modernization project. In addition to improving electric reliability within the operating region, this network will also provide much-needed high speed, low latency broadband connectivity to all Cleveland Utilities’ electric customers which will support educational services, health services, community, and municipal requirements across Cleveland, Tennessee.
Tim O. Henderson, the Chief Executive Officer of Cleveland Utilities, affirmed their decision; “As we evaluated different firms to partner with on this project, we selected FiberRise because it is a like-minded organization representing many of our core principles including excellence. FiberRise has a proven track record, and we are confident they bring the knowledge and expertise to make this project a success as we work to help build a brighter future for our community.”
Adam Biggam, CEO of ENTRUST Solutions Group stated, “Since acquiring FiberRise in July of 2022, ENTRUST has been incredibly proud of the great work and critical broadband infrastructure FiberRise is building alongside our clients.”
Tim Lawter, Principal of FiberRise, also commented, “Our company’s foundation is based on the mission to empower utilities with their own fiber network.” He continued, “It is with immense appreciation that we announce Cleveland Utilities’ decision to entrust us with the responsibility of propelling their community toward a new horizon.”
The impact of installing fiber broadband internet is monumental. Fiber optic service is linked to lower outage times, improved electric system reliability, lower unemployment rates, increased job growth, population growth, higher home values, and higher rates of new business formation. The Cleveland Utilities fiber plan will assist and empower every person in the community, including manufacturers, teachers, and entrepreneurs.
Cleveland Utilities was established March 1976, as the Cleveland Electric System and Cleveland Waterworks merged to become Cleveland Utilities. Since then, Cleveland Utilities has adapted and grown to serve its customers and the local community. In April 2023, the City Council of Cleveland, TN voted to transition Cleveland Utilities to a Utility Authority. Cleveland Utilities now serves approximately 33,495 electric customers, 34,021 water customers, and 20,619 wastewater customers.
