How EN Renewables and EN Engineering are Better Together

John Wilson

At ENTRUST, our ethos of “Better Together” is ingrained in every project we undertake. As a comprehensive service provider, we go beyond mere engineering, offering our clients a diverse range of expertise.

Whether it’s consulting on decarbonization, regulatory, safety or other facets, we aim to provide holistic solutions.

For instance, in conversion of service projects for hydrogen blending, our metallurgical experts examine existing pipeline and facility records, addressing potential operational and integrity concerns comprehensively for introducing hydrogen to natural gas pipelines. We ensure quality through effective material compatibility and engineering design, including corrosion control and cathodic protection.

With our array of capabilities spanning mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, and more, we not only execute the work efficiently but also help with automation control, development of safety and operational procedures & standards, and environmental concerns.

This comprehensive approach represents our commitment to “Better Together,” encapsulating not only EN Renewables for renewable projects but also the full spectrum of EN Consulting, EN Automation and EN Engineering services throughout our company.

Energy Resources that are Better Together: Hydrogen as a Complement to RNG

Numerous utility clients are actively pursuing decarbonization strategies, aiming to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 or sooner.

One avenue gaining traction is the development of hydrogen or hydrogen blending in natural gas to reduce the carbon intensity of delivered fuels. This burgeoning hydrogen industry has seen the emergence of numerous pilot and demonstration programs, offering decarbonization solutions. The Department of Energy has earmarked over $7 billion for hydrogen hubs across the United States, aiming to catalyze large-scale deployment efforts.

Many of ENTRUST’s utility partners are eagerly engaging with these initiatives and forthcoming projects.

These clients often collaborate with ENTRUST to systematically assess their existing operations and explore their potential evolution towards a hydrogen-centric future.

Leveraging our operator mindset, ENTRUST taps into the expertise of utility professionals to bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and practical execution. This approach ensures that academic theories seamlessly translate into operational practices, driving towards real and measurable results in the pursuit of decarbonization goals.

Better Together at ENTRUST: An Interconnected Approach

At ENTRUST, our client structure is organized around distinct components: the EN Engineering sector, alongside separate divisions for electric and gas services, works closely every day with EN Consulting, EN Automation, EN Field Services and EN Renewables. The synergy between renewable power and renewable gas is essential for producing renewable hydrogen, which is why we take an interconnected approach.

Since EN Renewables has been formally established, it has been bringing together consulting and engineering within its operations.

Our team collaborates closely with gas consulting and engineering groups, both in the power and gas sectors. Although these groups are now divided under a new organizational structure, they collectively complement each other throughout the project lifecycle. Our approach is comprehensive from the initial client discussion through construction and commissioning.

EN Consulting will ensure that our clients can operate with hydrogen safely through developed specifications, standards and procedures for each of their operating systems. EN Automation will ensure that the hydrogen is accurately and precisely blending at the designed levels. EN Field Services will oversee construction, and provide field inspectors to ensure proper construction and welding practices are being completed per industry code.

From initial consulting assessments to the meticulous technical design phase to commission & operation, working “Better Together” ensures safety, reliability, and cost-effective renewable energy projects and programs.

In summary, many companies recognize the need to decarbonize and have set goals accordingly.

Incorporating hydrogen into their decarbonization strategies is just one facet of their overall plan, but many lack detailed knowledge of its technical and safety aspects. Our team of experts is deeply engaged in the ongoing development of hydrogen as a safe and reliable energy source for the future.

We actively participate and lead in industry associations, contributing to the creation of new guidelines and standards. Our role extends beyond expertise; we also aim to educate and support clients, ensuring they grasp the intricacies of hydrogen utilization, especially for clients who may be unfamiliar with the technology and its implementation.

Let us work “Better Together” with you and your renewable project/program.
