Torsional Vibration
ENTRUST has deep domain expertise when it comes to torsional resonance physics, testing, and analysis of turbine-generator rotors. Our processes for modeling, testing, and monitoring for torsional frequencies and mode shapes are tried and true. ENTRUST provides our clients with the following advantages:
- In-depth knowledge of major OEM steam turbine generators, from both design and overhaul experience
- Our team has extensive “first of a kind” HP, IP, LP and generator retrofit design experience which has included torsional frequency analysis and testing services to ensure acceptable system frequencies.
- Nuclear and fossil turbine retrofits and new designs developed by our team are operating worldwide.
- Over 50 tests and analyses completed as an OEM and Independent 3rd Party Consultant
- Ability to recommend design changes to detune system if resonance issues are identified in the analysis
- Over 20 Torsional papers written starting in 1986
In recognition of our capabilities for evaluating complex nuclear turbine and generator issues, we were selected by NEIL in 2010 to assess risk for all US, Spain and Belgium nuclear (turbine and generator) units including new proposed retrofits and extended power upgrades. These assessments and criteria have been updated by TGA (now ENTRUST) in 2021 with a rollout scheduled for 2022. Assessments of torsional resonance concerns on all 120 nuclear units were completed in 2011. Many of these units are in the process of implementing additional monitoring and hardware modifications. Our assessment of emerging issues on behalf of NEIL has been instrumental in providing the necessary criteria for monitoring systems and upgrades.
